Discord Setup Guide: PS5, Xbox & PC

1. Open the Discord app on your phone or PC.
2. Go to User Settings > Connections.
3. Tap the PlayStation Network icon. A browser window opens.
4. Sign in with your PlayStation account and allow access. Discord shows a message once it's connected.

You can also start linking from the PS5. The PlayStation support page has a "Link your Discord account to PlayStation" section.

Discord voice only works on the latest PS5 system software. Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings and update.

1. Press the PS button to open the control center.
2. Select Game Base, then the Discord tab.
3. Pick the server (for us, Total Carnage). If someone is already in a voice channel, their avatars show next to the server name.
4. Pick the voice channel and select Join.

For DMs or group calls, choose Direct Voice Chats in the Discord tab, then Start Voice Chat or Join.

To check the call, mute someone or change settings, open the voice chat card in the control center.

1. In the Discord app, open the voice channel.
2. Phone: swipe up for the audio controls and tap Join on PlayStation. PC: in the voice channel view, press the ⋯ (three dots) and choose Transfer Voice to PlayStation, or right-click the voice channel name.
3. Pick your PS5 and press Transfer Voice.
4. A notification appears on the PS5. Select View Discord Voice Chat, or open the voice chat card from the control center.

• You can't be in a PS5 party and a Discord voice chat at the same time. Joining one takes you out of the other.
• Discord voice isn't a party, so party features like Share Screen and Share Play don't work in it.
• Discord audio isn't recorded in PS5 clips or broadcasts.
• You can use the controller's built-in mic or a headset.
• Who can use it depends on where you live and how old you are. Discord, PSN and parental controls (child accounts) can all block voice or account linking.

1. In Discord on your phone or PC, go to User Settings > Connections.
2. Select the Xbox logo and follow the prompts. Sign in to Discord and to your Microsoft account.
3. Make sure the authorisation screen includes permission for voice.

You can also link from the Xbox mobile app: tap the Discord spotlight on the home page, press Continue, and log in to both accounts.

Discord needs your Xbox to be on the latest update. Go to Settings > System > Updates.

1. Sign in on the Xbox with the account you linked.
2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
3. Go to Parties & chats and select Discord. Older Discord help pages call it "Discord Voice".
4. Pick the server (Total Carnage), then the voice channel, then Join channel.

Your call shows under Parties & chats, with the people in it and the audio settings.

You need the Xbox mobile app installed and signed in. Discord says you can't transfer without it.

1. Phone: in Discord, open the voice channel, swipe up for the audio controls and tap Join on Xbox. Don't tap Join Voice, because that connects you on the phone instead. The Xbox app opens. Choose your console and tap Transfer Audio.
2. PC: join the voice channel, press the ⋯ (three dots) next to the Soundboard and choose Transfer to Xbox. Scan the QR code with your phone, and the Xbox app opens so you can pick the console.

After that, mute and deafen in the Discord app also apply on the Xbox.

• You can't be in an Xbox party and Discord voice at the same time, and Discord friends and Xbox party friends can't be in the same chat.
• Discord audio can't be broadcast through Twitch streaming.
• Discord isn't available in every country or region.
• Privacy settings matter. If they're set to "In-game friends" or "Blocked", you can't talk outside the Xbox. Set cross-network play to Allow, and set communicating outside of Xbox with voice & text to Everybody. The exact names vary between the console, the Xbox app and account.xbox.com.

1. Download Discord from discord.com/download. The browser version works, but the desktop app is better for gaming (overlay, push to talk while in game).
2. Log in, then join the Total Carnage server.

1. Click the cog (User Settings) at the bottom left, then Voice & Video.
2. Set Input Device to your headset mic and Output Device to your headset. Don't leave them on "Default" if you have more than one audio device.
3. Set Input Volume and Output Volume, then use Let's Check or the mic test to hear yourself.

• Voice Activity: your mic sends audio when you speak. Turn on Automatically determine input sensitivity, or turn it off and drag the slider so the bar stays in the yellow when you're quiet and goes past the marker when you talk softly. If the end of your words cuts off, turn the automatic setting off.
• Push to Talk: your mic only sends while you hold a key. Great if you have a noisy room or a loud keyboard. Set the key under Keybinds or in Voice & Video.

Discord's noise suppression filters out keyboard, fan and background noise. You'll find it in Voice & Video and in the call controls. The exact options vary by app version.

• Overlay: Discord's in-game overlay shows who's talking over Warzone. Turn it on or off under User Settings > Game Overlay. If Warzone stutters or crashes, try turning the overlay off.
• Windows turning your game down: Windows can lower other sounds when it detects "communications". In Sound Control Panel > Communications, pick Do nothing. Discord also has its own Attenuation setting in Voice & Video. Set it to 0% if the game goes quiet when people talk.
• Xbox Game Bar (Win+G) has its own party chat. Don't use it at the same time as Discord, or you'll hear people twice.
• Warzone voice vs Discord: if the squad is on Discord, turn Warzone voice chat off or mute it in Warzone's audio settings. The exact menu names change between seasons. That stops echo and stops randoms hearing your callouts.

1. Join the voice channel in the Discord app.
2. Use Join on PlayStation / Transfer Voice to PlayStation, or Join on Xbox / Transfer to Xbox (see the PS5 and Xbox tabs).
3. Put your headset on the console, because the sound now comes out of the console, not your phone.

Easiest of all: skip the phone and join straight from the console (PS5: Game Base > Discord, Xbox: Parties & chats > Discord).

1. On the console, leave the Discord call. On PS5, use the voice chat card in the control center. On Xbox, go to Parties & chats.
2. On PC or phone, join the voice channel again as normal.

If the PC says you're already connected somewhere else, disconnect there and rejoin. That fixes most stuck calls.

• You tapped Join Voice on your phone instead of Join on PlayStation/Xbox, so the call is on the phone.
• The PC is still in the channel too. Leave on every device except the one you want to use.
• On PC, the Output Device is set to speakers or a monitor instead of your headset.
• On console, the headset is plugged into the controller while sound is going to the TV. Check Sound in the control center (PS5) or the audio settings in the guide (Xbox).

• Xbox: press the Xbox button, select the speaker/audio icon and slide Headset chat mixer towards chat to make Discord louder, or towards game to make the game louder.
• PS5: press the PS button, open Sound and use the voice chat balance slider. PlayStation's guide lists "Audio Balance" on the voice chat card. It's only there during a voice chat, and the PS5 support page says it shows for party voice chat, so for Discord it may be missing depending on your firmware. If so, turn the game down in Warzone's audio settings instead.
• PC: right-click someone in the call to change their user volume, or use Windows Volume Mixer to set Discord and Warzone separately.
• Stop hearing Warzone game chat on PS5: Sound > Mute Game Voice Chat.

• Check you're not deafened (headphone icon crossed out) and the channel or user volume isn't at zero.
• PC: User Settings > Voice & Video, and check Output Device is your headset.
• Console: make sure the call is actually on the console (see Switching) and the headset is the active output.
• PC: update audio drivers, and try Audio Subsystem Standard ↔ Legacy in Voice & Video.

• PS5 controller mute button: if it's glowing or blinking, your mic is muted. Press it once. On PS5 also check Mic in the control center, including "Microphone Status When Starting Voice Chat" (if it's set to Switch to Mute, you join muted).
• Check the headset's own mute switch or flip-up mic.
• PC: check Input Device, make sure Input Mode isn't stuck on Push to Talk, and lower the input sensitivity marker.
• PC: Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone must allow desktop apps to use the mic.
• PC: try running Discord as administrator, or turn off Windows mic "enhancements" (Sound Control Panel > Recording > Properties).

• The account isn't linked, or it was linked before console voice existed. Remove the connection in Discord and add it again.
• Update the console and the Discord app.
• Xbox: install and sign in to the Xbox mobile app.
• Discord voice on console isn't available in some regions, and child accounts can be blocked by parental controls.

• Make sure you sign in to the same PSN or Microsoft account you use on the console.
• Let the browser pop-up open (turn off pop-up blockers), or try linking from the phone app instead of PC.
• Remove any old connection first, then link again.
• Check Discord, PSN and Xbox aren't down. See discordstatus.com and our server status page.

Discord says these mean something on your connection is blocking voice:

1. Restart your modem/router and the device.
2. Allow Discord through your firewall or antivirus.
3. VPN: Discord voice only works on VPNs that support UDP. Turn the VPN off and try again.
4. School or work networks often block Discord.
5. If you're stuck on "Waiting for Voice Server", it's on Discord's end. Check discordstatus.com.

On consoles, a Strict NAT type can cause voice drops and party problems. Run the network test (PS5: Settings > Network > Connection Status; Xbox: Settings > General > Network settings). The fix depends on your router (UPnP and so on).

• You're hearing the squad in both Warzone voice or party chat and Discord. Turn off or mute Warzone voice chat, or leave the console party.
• Someone is using speakers instead of a headset, so their mic picks up the call. Get them on a headset, or turn on noise suppression or Push to Talk.
• Your PC and console are both in the call. Leave on one.

PC: Voice & Video > Debugging > Reset Voice and Video Settings. Console: fully restart the console (not rest mode). Still stuck? Ask in the Total Carnage Discord and someone will help.
