WalkyTalky Privacy Policy
WalkyTalky is a peer-to-peer walkie-talkie app. It is designed to work without accounts and without cloud servers. We do not operate a backend that stores your voice, identity, or chat history.
1. Who we are
WalkyTalky is developed and published by Total Carnage (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses on your device and how permissions are used.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect personal information for advertising, analytics dashboards, user accounts, or cloud storage.
The app may process the following information locally on your device and, when you connect, directly between devices:
- Microphone audio — used for push-to-talk voice and acoustic pairing tones. Audio is streamed to the connected peer device; it is not uploaded to Total Carnage.
- Camera images — used only when you scan a QR code for pairing. Images are processed on-device and are not stored by us.
- Nearby / Bluetooth / Wi‑Fi Direct device discovery data — used only to find and connect to nearby devices for a session.
- Location permission (where required by Android) — used to enable nearby device discovery on certain Android versions. WalkyTalky does not use this to track your location history or map your movements.
- NFC pairing data — used only during optional NFC pairing.
- App settings and trusted-device records — stored locally on your phone (for example theme preferences and devices you choose to trust for reconnect).
- Cryptographic session material — generated on-device to encrypt peer-to-peer sessions. Keys are not sent to Total Carnage servers.
3. How peer-to-peer communication works
When you connect with another device, voice and pairing data travel over local links such as Wi‑Fi Direct / nearby networking (and related local transport). Sessions are intended to be end-to-end encrypted between the participating devices. Total Carnage does not host your conversations.
4. Permissions we request
- Microphone — voice transmission and acoustic pairing.
- Camera — QR code scanning for pairing.
- Nearby devices / Bluetooth / Wi‑Fi related permissions — discover and connect to nearby phones.
- Location (when required by the OS) — support nearby discovery; not used for continuous tracking.
- NFC — optional tap-to-pair.
- Vibrate / wake lock / network state — app UX and keeping an active radio session reliable.
- Internet — may be declared for platform/network APIs; core walkie-talkie use does not require an account or cloud service operated by us.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your voice or pairing content with third-party advertisers. Data exchanged during a session is shared only with the peer device(s) you connect to.
If you use Google Play to download the app, Google may process limited installation and device information under Google’s own policies.
6. Data retention
Because we do not run a WalkyTalky cloud account system, we do not retain your conversations on our servers. Local settings and trusted-device entries remain on your device until you clear app data, uninstall the app, or use in-app options such as forgetting paired devices.
7. Children’s privacy
WalkyTalky is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Security
We design the app to keep sessions local and encrypted between devices. No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. Please use the app only with trusted nearby users and keep your device updated.
9. Your choices
- You can deny or revoke permissions in Android Settings.
- You can clear local app data or uninstall WalkyTalky at any time.
- You can forget trusted devices in the app settings where available.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will be revised when changes are posted.
